Town of Chincoteague

The Town of Chincoteague proposes to acquire and convert a 2-acre parcel on South Main Street into a multi-purpose public waterfront destination. The plan aims to support recreation, environmental education, and community gathering, while prioritizing public access, sustainability, and preserving open space. Proposed uses include viewing areas, fishing, event spaces, non-motorized boating, and public art installations, funded through town reserves without new taxes.

The Chincoteague Town Council convened multiple meetings to address various town matters. Discussions included budget reviews for General Government, DPD, and Emergency Services, as well as options for the Eel Creek culvert. The council also considered the FY26 Trolley Budget and personnel policy changes related to sick leave and bereavement leave. Updates were provided on the sewer collection system project, and committee appointments were made for the Planning Commission, Harbor Committee, Board of Building Appeals, and Board of Zoning Appeals. Additionally, the council reviewed and considered a State of Emergency declaration and discussed the beach relocation project, short-term rentals, harbor operations, well relocation, town staffing, parks and recreation, downtown zoning, and the upcoming 100th anniversary of the pony swim.
