Sole Source: If the need is highly specialized/proprietary or a unique part/repair, partner with the end-user to craft a robust sole source justification; Purchasing will route for Town Board approval.
Coops: If the need is standard goods/services, route through a cooperative contract (e.g., BOCES or OMNIA) to bypass the $20,000 formal bid threshold; confirm usability with Purchasing and the department head.
Entity: Town of Islip (NY). No specific sole source dollar cap stated; the formal competitive bid threshold is low ($20,000), making sole source compelling when justified. Practical notes:
Position as proprietary technology, essential for continuity of service, or a unique part/repair; align with the Town’s past sole source awards for specialized equipment.
