Belleville Public School District 118

The special meeting included election results and the administration of the Oath of Office to re-elected members. The Board of Education was declared adjourned sine die, followed by the election of the President and Vice-President of the Board of Education. The appointment of the Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of Education was approved. The Board also decided to meet on the third Tuesday of each month. Committee assignments were discussed.

The strategic plan focuses on improving the learning environment for students and staff. Goals include lowering class sizes, improving early identification of student behaviors, improving staff culture and climate, addressing staffing shortages, and creating additional programs for academic enrichment and community building. Specific strategies involve implementing data-driven behavior intervention programs, conducting staff surveys, exploring community partnerships, and surveying the school community to determine desired programs. Outcomes include lower average class sizes, improved social-emotional learning support, enhanced staff wellness, increased program offerings, and stronger community engagement.

The Belleville School District #118 Strategic Plan (2022-2025) focuses on five key goal areas: Learning Environment (lowering class sizes, improving early student behavior identification, enhancing school culture and climate, addressing staffing shortages, and promoting enrichment programs); Communication (improving school-home communication, ensuring staff comfort with communication to all stakeholders, increasing communication from the district office to parents, and increasing communication with community organizations); Resources & Facilities (upgrading air conditioning in gymnasiums, upgrading classroom furniture and outdoor facilities, improving safety and security, creating a master facilities plan, and exploring options for classroom and office space); Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (actively seeking diverse candidates, educating staff on diverse populations, empowering staff and community to connect through shared experiences, expanding and diversifying extracurricular opportunities, and increasing partnerships with businesses and the community); and Supportive, Student-Centered Learning Environment (ensuring opportunities for all students to access high-quality programming and creating a sense of belonging for all individuals). The plan is the result of a community-wide survey, stakeholder meetings, and Board of Education input.
