Contract #25.14 – New Hopkins Gymnasium (HG), and Addition & Alteration to J.F. Tatem Elementary School (TES)

Description: Elementary School: The scope of work for the Alterations at Elementary School includes but is not limited to: Alterations to convert an existing Library into multiple Classrooms including all new finishes, wall partitions, electrical power & lighting, suspended acoustic tile ceilings, and modifications & upgrades to the existing HVAC system. Work also includes the installation of a wall with door access for the existing nurse's suite, a renovation of the existing cafeteria kitchen and pantry, and addition of a new office within the existing music room. The scope also includes the new construction of a two story media center and classroom addition. The addition includes a 2-story exterior stair. The addition will be freestanding and attached to the building through a connecting corridor on both stories with floor, wall and roof expansion joints. The exterior envelope will closely match the existing facade materiality of brick and will include the use of metal panels, and glass curtain wall. Gym: The Hopkins Gym parcel is a new gymnasium building to be built on the existing High School lot. This new construction will be an A-3 assembly occupancy. This building will be constructed as slab-on-grade with concrete and block foundations and footings. The exterior envelope will feature brick masonry, cast-stone details, and translucent daylighting sandwich panels. Bearing CMU and steel columns will support the steel joist roof, metal deck, and partial modified bitumen roof/partial standing seam metal roof over continuous insulation. The construction type will be II-B and the full building will be sprinklered. The program of this building includes a high school basketball gym, a wrestling gym with an office, locker rooms, trainer’s room, toilet rooms, shower room, electrical and plumbing room, and a couple of storage rooms. The site work on this cleared and developed site will include a parking lot that will serve the new gym, site lighting, and landscaping.
