Town of Knightdale

The Knightdale Strategic Plan establishes the Town's future direction, priorities, actions, and investments to achieve short- and long-term goals. It is built around five primary Focus Areas: Safe, Connected & Inclusive, Sustainable, Active & Healthy, and Organizational Excellence. The plan aims for Knightdale to be an inclusive and connected urban small town with unique gathering places that foster a sense of community, providing a healthy and safe environment and opportunities for a high quality of life for all residents.

The meeting included several recognitions and introductions. The council recognized a student from Thales Academy, the Lady Knights flag football team for their championships, a student volunteer for her community service, and an outgoing board member for his service on the Board of Adjustment. Additionally, new staff were introduced, including a storm water inspector, a planner, and a planning technician. A new police officer was sworn into office. Finally, the council discussed the importance of civility in local government administration.

The Town of Knightdale Public Art Plan establishes a vision and framework for integrating public art throughout the town to enhance community connectedness, historic preservation, economic vitality, and resident quality of life. The plan is organized around four strategic goals: site-planned initiatives, activating parks and greenways, supporting economic development and tourism, and establishing art funding policy and management systems. Its overarching vision is to foster community pride, enhance identity, and make art accessible to all residents and visitors through artistic expressions and experiences in community spaces.

The meeting featured a presentation and discussion regarding the Overlook at Old Cruz project, a proposed residential development encompassing approximately 30 acres. Key topics included a project overview, site plan analysis, transportation and water allocation considerations, environmental protection efforts involving wetlands and stream buffers, and requested site development allowances. Discussions addressed product types, building density, architectural commitments, open space amenities, and the project's consistency with the town's comprehensive plan and guiding principles. Additionally, concerns regarding property buffering, pedestrian connectivity, and firearm discharge regulations were discussed.

The meeting featured the recognition of Creek Week art contest winners and the introduction of a new maintenance worker. The council issued proclamations for Creek Week and Arbor Day, highlighting regional environmental stewardship efforts and tree planting activities. Additionally, the council recognized outgoing members from several advisory boards, including the land use review board, the board of adjustment, and the community relations advisory board, for their dedicated service.
