Maine Community College System

The President provided an update on strategic planning initiatives, the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Workforce, and discussions concerning student financial aid and federal grants. The Education Committee successfully recommended program changes, including the introduction of a Welding Technology certificate and the discontinuation of certain health and construction programs. The Board approved amendments to several policies covering governance, non-discrimination, academic affairs, and personnel file administration. Additionally, the Board conferred Emeritus Trustee status and ratified collective bargaining agreements for the Maine State Employees Association supervisory and support units.

The board meeting included several key agenda items such as the presentation of the System President's report, which featured introductions of new staff and special recognition for a past student trustee. The President discussed initiatives to support workforce recovery in Maine and provided a justification for maintaining the current organizational structure of the system rather than merging colleges. The Board of Trustees ratified labor contracts for the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees and the Maine State Employees Association. Policy amendments were approved regarding in-state tuition qualifications and remote meeting procedures. The Board approved the discontinuation of a specific Career and Technical Education program and accepted the audited financial statements for FY21. Other actions included granting Emeritus Faculty status to a faculty member and accepting significant financial gifts for nursing program expansion and campus infrastructure improvements. Finally, the Board authorized the System President to negotiate and execute documents for the purchase of property adjacent to a community college following an executive session.
