The strategic plan, titled RISE 2030, provides a clear roadmap for achieving the mission of putting students first, grounded in core values of Respect, Integrity, Success, and Equity. It focuses on four key areas: High-Quality Instruction, High-Quality Personnel, Safe and Supportive Learning Environments, and Family and Community Partnerships. The plan aims to nurture the whole child, fostering independence, creativity, and lifelong learning, and preparing every student for success in college, career, military, and life, while also developing future leaders, promoting good citizenship, and building strong community partnerships.

The Henry County School Board meeting included a presentation by Richacres Elementary School, focusing on academic performance in reading, math, science, and Virginia studies, along with efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism through incentives like bowling trips and a "buck store". The board also discussed grading practices, addressing concerns about grade inflation and consistency, and reviewed data on student grading alignment with Standards of Learning (SOL) testing. Changes to grade weighting, setting formative assessments at 40% and summative assessments at 60%, were also addressed.

The meeting included recognition of young people, an invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, and a public comment session. Awards and recognitions were presented for outstanding environmental literacy, green practices, and design achievements. Various student groups were honored for their achievements in band, forestry, volleyball, fishing, FFA, ROTC, Beta Club, and theater. Adjustments were made to address salary inequities, particularly for experienced teachers, bus mechanics and technology positions. Discussions also covered the restoration of Ed and Rec funds for schools and capital outlay, with plans to use year-end funds to support school supplies. The board also discussed expedited retakes for Standards of Learning (SOL) tests and the importance of parental permission for retakes.
