Desert Sands Unified School District

The 2023-24 Local Accountability and Control Plan (LACUP) describes how Desercent University School District will improve student outcomes. The plan, developed in partnership with educational stakeholders, aims to increase student progress, decrease achievement gaps, and report on prior year's advancements. Its strategic goals include maximizing student achievement, growth, and success; preparing students for college and careers; fostering a positive and respectful learning environment; and ensuring students with disabilities are prepared for college, career, and life, aligning with the mission to inspire and nurture every student.

The Board held a regular meeting that included the swearing-in of a new student member. The proceedings featured several recognitions, including awards for student documentary projects and the introduction of new district staff members across various departments such as custodial, nutrition services, and administration. Key information items included an update on a student trip for the Future Executives of America and a report on uniform complaints. Additionally, the Board received a progress presentation regarding the AVID academic program.

The committee held a regular meeting to address various agenda items, including public hearings on statutory level increases and fiscal year excise taxes. Actions taken included the approval of residential and commercial development fees, budget and personnel-related resolutions, and the appointment of several new directors and personnel. The meeting also featured reports on student and staff achievements, including recognitions for summer class graduates and retiring staff members, as well as business services contracts and student support service agreements.

The board meeting included the recognition of Ford School as a Distinguished California School, the announcement of employees of the month, and the presentation of the state seal of civic accord to various students. Additional agenda items featured awards for a spelling bee competition, a student council report from Shadow Hills High School, and the honoring of student leadership for their service.

This plan outlines the Sants Unified School District's commitment to improving student outcomes by partnering with stakeholders to increase progress and reduce performance gaps.
