This Instructional Plan outlines the strategy for the smooth reopening of Cumberland County Public Schools following COVID-19 closures. It addresses the provision of new instruction for all students by focusing on four key areas: operational infrastructure to support learning, delivery of new instruction, identification of instructional gaps and student needs, and robust remote learning options.

The strategic plan for Cumberland County Public Schools is designed to prepare every student to be a learner, worker, and citizen by fostering deep learning experiences and developing essential competencies such as communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The plan is guided by objectives to engage every student, implement authentic learning experiences, improve opportunity and achievement with an emphasis on equity, create and expand partnerships, and optimize resources. Key strategic priorities include providing quality early intervention programs, creating an equitable and inclusive school culture, advocating for a fully-funded budget, increasing teacher effectiveness, enhancing workplace and college readiness, and ensuring graduates are prepared for post-secondary education, the workforce, and active citizenship. The vision is for the school system to be a model educational and resource center for the community, preparing graduates for a lifetime of learning in a rapidly changing world.

The Cumberland County School Board's Strategic Plan Committee met to update the Strategic Plan. Key changes included updating dates to 2024-2030, revising School Board goals to reflect a student-centered approach, expanding equitable learning opportunities, developing positive stakeholder relationships, and using resources effectively to support staff. The committee also refined priorities, clarifying terminology, adding assessment method examples, updating course offerings to reflect community workforce needs, and updating the final page with current School Board and committee member information.

The Cumberland County Public Schools strategic plan (2024-2030) aims to prepare students to be successful learners, workers, and citizens by fostering deep learning experiences that develop essential competencies. The plan focuses on six key priorities: providing quality and inclusive early intervention programs; creating a school culture focused on equity and inclusive practices; advocating for a fully-funded budget; increasing teacher effectiveness; increasing student access to workplace opportunities, college credits, and career pathways credentials; and graduating students prepared for post-secondary education, the workforce, and productive citizenship. The plan emphasizes engaging every student in authentic learning experiences, improving opportunities and achievement for all students, creating partnerships, and optimizing resources. The overall goal is to graduate students who have mastered the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

The committee received an overview of CTE curriculum and student activities, including culinary arts competitions and nursing student health checks at a Virginia Chamber meeting. Work-based learning opportunities were discussed, along with updates on Perkins Grant expenditures and the exploration of purchasing a hibachi grill for culinary arts. The Jobs for Virginia program and its integration with life skills curriculum were also reviewed, along with information on etiquette banquets for seniors.
