The proceedings included a Public Hearing concerning a proposed Ordinance to request a Referendum to increase the Sales and Use Tax from two percent (2%) to two and three-quarters of one percent (2.75%). The purpose of the tax increase is to support the Housing and Community Preservation Fund through Loudon County Habitat for Humanity, prioritizing seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, and to fund improvements for the Lenoir City Parks and Recreation Department, specifically for expanding recreation fields and facilities. Presentations were given by the Lenoir City Parks and Recreation Director and the Loudon County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director. Following the public hearing, the Council adopted the Ordinance for the referendum and adopted a Resolution requesting the Loudon County Election Commission to include the question on the May 5, 2026 ballot.
