City of Babbitt

The City of Babbitt has completed a comprehensive plan and housing survey to prepare for future growth and employment. Key initiatives include the renovation and utilization of the Babbitt Municipal Center for administrative and public services, active economic development efforts through grant programs and business attraction, and the sale of residential lots to support community expansion.

The special meeting was called to order for the purpose of conducting interviews for the campground host position. Discussion was held regarding the interview results and the needs for the position. The council subsequently moved to reopen the Campground Host position for new applications to be reviewed at the second meeting in February 2026, with administrative staff instructed to encourage former applicants to reapply.

The Recreation Advisory Board meeting included discussions regarding arena usage fees, cleaning fees for arena rentals, and the possibility of offering open roller skating sessions during the summer. The board also addressed concerns about the skate park's condition and the need for repairs, suggesting the exploration of composite coverings and contractor quotes.

The commission discussed the West Babbitt Development Design and concerns about the lift station, including maintenance costs and potential revenue. They also discussed the Deep Winter Greenhouse project's request for water delivery and set a price for the service. The commission approved the repair of the digester mixer and reviewed the overtime report. The operator's report included updates on the transition and potential options for a biosolid press system. Additionally, a pause was approved for the Land Application Suitability Study, and all bills and payrolls were approved.

The meeting addressed the request from a member of the public regarding tenants putting utilities in their name and the option to pay utility bills via credit card. The commission approved Magney Pay App No. 19. The PUC monthly meeting schedule was changed to the second Wednesday of each month. The overtime report was reviewed, and the Operators reported on the need for an additional dumpster at the WWTP, advising residents it is acceptable to stop running water for the winter season and that there were 0 freeze ups this winter. The possibility of accepting credit cards at City Hall for PUC bills was discussed, and Accounting Officer/Secretary Powell will discuss this with the City Clerk. All bills and payrolls were approved.
