Chadron State College

This Facilities Master Plan serves as a roadmap for Chadron State College, guiding the institution's campus development and facility enhancements through 2030 and beyond. The plan focuses on optimizing existing academic spaces, fostering active learning environments, and addressing facility needs for program and student growth. It also prioritizes upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems, the implementation of sustainable practices, and improvements to campus aesthetics, circulation, and student housing. The plan includes a preliminary list of projects with cost estimates and aims to enhance the overall student experience and strengthen community partnerships.

This document provides an overview of various initiatives and goals aimed at promoting holistic wellness across the lifespan. Key focus areas include implementing worksite wellness programs, fostering campus-wide engagement in physical activities, building community partnerships, and integrating wellness principles into academic curricula. The overarching goal is to empower individuals to achieve healthier, happier lives by emphasizing preventive measures, sustainable lifestyle practices, and strong social and environmental connections, drawing insights from research on longevity and happiness.

The event featured an acknowledgment of the college's location on the traditional homelands of the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho people, followed by the presentation of colors by the Dawes County Veterans Honor Guard and the Pledge of Allegiance. Key speakers included Dr. Ron Patterson, President of Chadron State College, who welcomed attendees and introduced guests. Student speaker Ms. Ella Louise O’Brien delivered a reflection on her college experience, focusing on growth, perseverance, and enjoying the journey. Dr. Kimberly Paddock-O’Reilly offered greetings from the Academic Affairs department, highlighting the academic attainment of the graduating class and the value of a college degree. Dr. Paul Turman, Chancellor of the Nebraska State College System, extended official greetings, emphasizing the graduates' legacy and preparedness for the future. The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Chuck Welch, President of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, who offered ten life tips for the graduates, stressing the importance of family, authenticity, relationships, taking risks, voting, and living deliberately. The event concluded with the formal presentation and conferral of Master's degrees for the Class of 2025.

The Master Academic Plan 2019-23 for Chadron State College serves as a foundational component of the institution's strategic direction, Chadron State 2030. It is organized around three core priorities: People, Purpose, and Place. The plan aims to enhance student and employee success through recruitment, retention, engagement, and leadership; foster student learning and growth via pedagogy, support services, and wellness; and strengthen community engagement, positioning the college as a model Rural Serving Institution. Objectives include aligning institutional efforts, supporting High-Impact Practices, integrating unit plans, and utilizing evidence-based improvement.

The strategic planning meeting involved a review of SOAR analysis data from constituent groups, including IT and Facilities and Maintenance. The IT group discussed growing their department, difficulties in hiring student workers, and the potential of a cybersecurity program. The Facilities and Maintenance group addressed staff turnover issues and opportunities for technical school-type programs. Discussions also covered student retention strategies, partnering with the Pine Ridge Reservation, and the importance of accurate enrollment data. The NSCS Strategic Plan was reviewed, and volunteers were assigned to lead SOAR analysis for constituent groups.
