Appomattox County School District

The mission of Appomattox County Public Schools is to ensure all students acquire skills to become productive and contributing citizens at local, state, national, and global levels. The plan emphasizes providing a safe, nurturing learning environment and fostering collaborative partnerships among school personnel, students, parents, and community members.

The Appomattox County Public Schools (ACPS) 2019-2025 Comprehensive Six-Year Plan prioritizes providing all students with opportunities for success, fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment, and engaging stakeholders in collaborative partnerships. Key focus areas include improving instruction and student achievement through curriculum alignment, targeted remediation, technology integration, and career readiness initiatives; creating safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments; recruiting, retaining, and supporting high-quality staff; managing financial resources effectively; and enhancing communication with stakeholders. The plan emphasizes data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and a commitment to equity and excellence.

The meeting will include a public hearing on the FY26 school budget, presentations on the proposed budget, instructional calendar revisions, and the school discipline process. Other agenda items include recognitions for Virginia School Boards Appreciation Month, communication items from the superintendent and board members, consideration of a National FFA Week proclamation, and approval of a revised 2025 school board meeting calendar. A discussion of a joint board meeting with the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors and a tour of school facilities are also scheduled. The meeting will also include closed session discussions and personnel approvals.

The meeting included consideration of requests for exemption from compulsory attendance laws for bona fide religious belief for the 2015-2016 school year and requests for admission as out-of-county tuition students for the same period. A 1:00 p.m. early student dismissal on September 4, 2015, was approved. The meeting also involved a closed session to discuss personnel matters and student disciplinary issues, followed by actions taken in the public session regarding personnel, and the placement of two students, #14444 and #51949.

The meeting included a public hearing on the American Rescue Plan/ESSER III for ACPS. Discussion topics included the approval of the Appomattox Middle School softball team affiliation, pending field availability; the first and second readings and adoption of revised policies; approval of ACHS's VHSL membership application for 2023-2024; approval to proceed with Piedmont Community Healthcare, Inc. for employee health insurance; approval to switch bank accounts for student activity funds at Appomattox Middle and High Schools; approval of out-of-county tuition requests; and approval of exemption requests from compulsory attendance laws. A closed session was held to discuss personnel matters and student disciplinary issues, followed by actions taken in the public session regarding student placement and personnel approvals.
