Anacortes School District

The meeting included a recognition of National School Bus Safety Week, a presentation on the Senior Seminar at Anacortes High School, and comments from the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Board members. The Board approved the Annual Operating Plan, Superintendent's Targeted Goals, and Board Annual Goals for 2023-24. Policy updates were presented and discussed, including the Comprehensive Early Literacy Plan, Learning Assistance Program, Substance Abuse Program, Guidance and Counseling, Highly Capable Program, School Calendar, Summer School, Alternative Learning Environment, High School Equivalency, Diplomas for Veterans, Grading & Progress Reports, Promotion & Retention, and Students and Telecommunications Devices. The board also discussed school improvement plans and approved travel for Speech & Debate 2023-24, personnel recommendations, warrants, and minutes from a site visit.

The meeting included a program update on College, Career, and Life Readiness presented by the Anacortes High School Principal. Additionally, a program update regarding Social Emotional Learning was provided, including a SEL ASD Survey Note Catcher exercise with the board members.

The meeting included a presentation from Fidalgo Elementary, a thank you for School Board Appreciation Month, public comments, superintendent and assistant superintendent comments, board member comments, and student comments. The finance director presented the enrollment and financial reports. The board discussed WIAA and legislative updates. The superintendent presented the Pillar Report for Social and Emotional Learning. The board also discussed a contract with Fidalgo Pool for the Boys Swim and Dive team and an Interlocal Agreement with the Whatcom Discovery Program. The consent agenda included a policy update on sexual health education, a pillar report on quality instruction evaluation, an overnight field trip request, personnel recommendations, warrants, and minutes from previous meetings.

The meeting included a district presentation by the Finance Director, covering topics such as levy cap, prototypical school funding (staffing, materials, supplies, and operating costs), special education, transportation, capital funding, and skill center. The session also included questions from legislators, sharing of perspectives, and general discussion.

The meeting included the Island View Site Visit presentation and School Improvement Plan, classroom visits, and a debrief of the classroom visits.
