DISTRIBUTED GENERATION SYSTEM FOR THE VIEQUES WWTP VIEQUES, PR
This project consists to provide the Vieques Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with energy resilience and robustness needed to withstand major natural events as well as the more frequent electrical grid blackouts that occur in Puerto Rico. The Distributed Generation System will rely on solar energy through the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) array coupled with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and will be supported by a diesel emergency generator. The system will also have the capability to export energy to the grid through net metering. In addition to improving energy resilience, the system will provide voltage stabilization and enhanced protection for WWTP's electrical components. This project will benefit approximately 1,990 families in the municipality of Vieques. Funding by Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA), the Federal Management Emergency Agency (FEMA) under the FEMA's Accelerated Obligation Strategy (known as FAAST), and the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program.
