Wareham Public Schools

This document outlines the Wareham Public Schools' District Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP), mandated by Massachusetts General Laws to support regular education students and prevent unnecessary special education referrals. It details strategies for teachers to accommodate diverse learning needs and manage behavior, available support services, direct reading instruction, and promotes teacher collaboration and parental involvement. The plan also describes the Student Support Council (SSC) process for collaborative problem-solving and provides extensive lists of instructional accommodations for elementary, middle, and high school students across behavioral, academic, and organizational domains.

The committee reviewed and approved several policies, including Purchasing, Disposal of Obsolete Equipment, Motor Vehicle Idling, and Measuring Body Mass Index. Updates were made and approved for Goals Statement, Curriculum Adoption, Home and Hospital Instruction, Online Instruction: Courses for Students, Movies and Films in the Classroom, Discriminatory Harassment, and Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug use by Students Prohibited. The committee agreed to delay the Graduation Requirements policy until the next meeting and to hold the Retention policy for review by the retention committee. A new meeting date was set to review additional policies.

The committee discussed and approved an amended policy on Student Activity Accounts, incorporating edits recommended by committee members. They also approved a revised policy on the Use of Facilities, which includes increased costs to cover wear and tear. Additionally, the committee approved a revised original policy on Curriculum Adoption. The policies on Graduation Requirements and Retention were tabled until the October 2019 meeting to allow for further review.

The committee discussed updates to the Facilities Governing Use of policy, focusing on rental charges for Wareham Youth Non Profit Organizations. They reviewed the Emergency Health Procedures policy, specifically regarding the removal of the "nit" policy. Changes to the Bus Transportation policy were suggested, including language about bus applications and fees. The committee also discussed Community Use of School Vehicles and Meals: Policy and Pricing. Additionally, there was a discussion about how new policies are created and voted on by the School Committee.

The Policy Review Committee convened to discuss and update several policies. Key items included amendments to the Staff Ethics/Conflict of Interest policy with a new paragraph insertion, updates to the Network Acceptable Use policy with a revised website link, and the approval of a new Domestic Violence Leave policy. Additionally, the Internship Site policy was amended to include 'therapists and counselors'.
