Board meetings and strategic plans from National Park Service
This document is the 2023 update to the National Park Service's Climate Change Response Strategy, serving as a high-level blueprint to guide the agency's efforts in addressing the climate crisis and protecting resources for future generations. The strategy is built upon four cornerstones of action: Understand, Adapt, Mitigate, and Communicate. It aims to mainstream climate-informed practices across all NPS operations, protect natural and cultural resources, facilities, park operations, visitor experience, and human health, and reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions towards a net-zero future.
The board meeting featured a comprehensive discussion on tourism partnerships, using the Valley Forge National Historical Park as a case study for economic development and community engagement. The board reviewed and recommended the designation of the Independence Creek Preserve as a new National Natural Landmark. Additionally, the board evaluated numerous National Historic Landmark nominations, resulting in recommendations for five new designations, nine documentation updates, and two withdrawals. Updates were provided on the revision of tourism policies and visitor research methodologies. Furthermore, the board formally approved the establishment of a new Committee on Recognizing Women's History to align with current federal executive orders regarding the representation of women's contributions in national park sites.
