Richmond Community School District

The council reviewed and approved several items, including a special event request for a mobile food vendor at Richmond Little League tournaments, a special event request for a Walkathon benefiting veterans, and the contract award for the Howard Street drainage improvement project. Additionally, the council approved a reciprocal aid agreement for police agencies within Macomb County. Finally, the council voted to deny the proposed amendment to the Macomb County Solid Waste Management Plan due to concerns regarding increased heavy truck traffic from Canadian waste transport and the resulting negative impacts on roads, traffic congestion, and resident safety.

The board meeting included discussions on amending the agenda to prioritize public comments and student representatives. Presentations featured a request for a proposed overnight volleyball team camp and a request for three overnight summer wrestling trips. The board recognized the 2026 Teachers of the Year from the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and announced the 2026-2027 Macomb County Literacy Ambassador.

Other business included approving the annual Tootsie Roll sale by the Knights of Columbus, authorizing a lot split and combination between the First United Methodist Church and the city, and approving the installation of a replacement grit pump at the wastewater treatment plant. The council also reconstituted the ad hoc city manager evaluation committee and established a fundraising initiative to sell salvaged floorboards from the historic gymnasium.
