Peace River

The board discussed and moved to accept an update to the Peace River Museum Public Access to Collections Directive. Discussions were also held regarding naming conventions for new wayfinding signage and potential options for setting a separate fee rate for the Centre Ice Logo. Additionally, the board held a closed session to evaluate applications for FCSS Grants to Groups, ultimately awarding funding to Peace Regional Outreach, the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention, Sagitawa Friendship Society, and NPSPVD - Stepping Up.

The committee discussed and approved a proposal to purchase 23 gift certificates, valued at $60.00 each, for medical professionals at the Sunrise Medical Center, the Aspen Mile Medical Clinic, and for the Radiologist and General Practitioner Anesthetist at the Peace River Hospital. The total expenditure for this initiative was capped at $1,380.00.

The committee held discussions regarding several delegation presentations, including those for housing projects and organizational grants. The agenda included updates on the Peace River Municipal Library and Art Gallery, the Taxi Pass Program, and the ATCO 2025 Franchise Report and streetlight savings. Members initiated discussions on the 2026 Operating Budget, accepted various departmental reports, and moved into a closed session to review a legal land matter and the Chief Administrative Officer performance evaluation.

The Council discussed several items, including initiating the detailed design for the New Town Hall project and receiving updates on wastewater treatment plant repairs and the Highway 743 collaboration. Financial approvals were made for a budget increase to the Fieldhouse Wall capital project and a transfer to the roads operating budget for snow removal costs. The Council addressed regional partnerships, including the withdrawal of membership from the Peace Regional Economic Development Alliance and research into the Mihta Askiy Data Centre Project. Additionally, the Council made an appointment to the Economic Development Committee, authorized attendance at the RhPAP Conference, received various departmental and board reports, and held a closed session regarding an RCMP and Crime Stoppers initiative.

The meeting featured a presentation from the municipal energy manager on the town's municipal energy management program, specifically focusing on the transition from baseline development to action planning. Topics included the establishment of a 2024 energy baseline, the importance of weather normalization for natural gas consumption, benchmarking efforts for the town's facility portfolio, and strategies for future capital planning, grant readiness, and governance integration to improve energy performance.
