Brooklyn Center's strategic priorities include maintaining a strong financial position, enhancing public places, improving community and employee safety, providing quality services with fair and equitable treatment, strengthening community and employee engagement, partnering with other public entities, strengthening and diversifying business development and housing, and improving employees' experience. The city aims to provide high-quality, equitable city services that are inclusive and welcoming, fostering an engaged relationship with the community and a renewed sense of pride in the city.

The City Council adopted the 2003-2004 Deer Management Implementation Plan, which includes providing resident information on deer and limiting deer damage, working with the DNR to control the deer population, implementing a deer population reduction program in Palmer Lake Park using bow hunters, encouraging neighboring municipalities to support deer population control efforts, compiling data for deer management, and evaluating the effectiveness of the plan. A subsequent resolution amended the plan to specify that deer harvesting would only occur on weekdays, allow deer harvesting over bait with a special DNR permit in January and February in Palmer Lake Park, and set harvesting hours in January and February from noon to 7:00 p.m.

This resolution establishes the Brooklyn Center Cultural and Public Arts Commission to advise the City Council on beautification and public art initiatives. The commission's purpose is to guide aesthetic considerations and promote public art to foster civic pride, community health, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Key duties include advising on investments, decision-making, project development and evaluation, and policy development. The commission will consist of a chairperson and six members appointed by the City Council for staggered two-year terms. The resolution also outlines the commission's composition, selection process, term of office, resignation procedures, conflict of interest guidelines, and meeting procedures. Specific areas for beautification and public art projects are identified, including opportunity sites, transit centers, vacant parking lots, the library, city parks and lakes, city trails, Centennial Park, areas around the Mississippi River, and city or public facilities. The resolution also defines the city's neighborhoods and the commission's role in liaising with neighborhood advisory committees.

The Brooklyn Center City Council held a regular session on April 8, 2019, approving various items including minutes from previous meetings, licenses, and resolutions related to a cooperative landscaping agreement, equipment loan agreement, and amendments to the city council code. Public hearings were held regarding the Bellvue and Southeast Area Mill and Overlay Improvements, resulting in resolutions ordering improvements and certifying special assessments. A special assessment for weed removal costs was dismissed, and the 2040 Comprehensive Plan was approved for submittal to the Metropolitan Council.
