North Adams City Council City Council Meeting
The City Council meeting primarily focused on the potential acceptance of the Fiscal Year 2025 Edward Burn Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. Extensive public testimony was provided regarding concerns over grant stipulations that may require police cooperation with federal immigration authorities, which speakers argued could conflict with the Massachusetts Protect Act and undermine trust within the immigrant community. Additionally, the Council addressed concerns regarding the security of the police evidence room and the city's financial arrangement involving the leasing of property for municipal use.
