The City of Port Townsend's Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) is a data-driven initiative to identify safety issues and implement engineering countermeasures to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes. The plan focuses on analyzing crash data from 2020-2024, identifying contributing risk factors, prioritizing high-risk locations, and recommending countermeasures and safety improvement projects. Key focus areas include Pedestrian Involved, Entering at Angle, Bicyclist Involved, and Left-Turn crashes, addressing risk factors such as inadequate pedestrian and bicycle facilities, lack of pavement markings and signage, access point conflicts, high operating speeds, and high average daily traffic volumes. The City of Port Townsend's Active Transportation Plan outlines four key strategies: ADA Priority Routes, Connected Routes, Recreational Trail System, and Culture. It aims to build a more connected, safe, and accessible transportation network by addressing long-term ADA improvements, fostering continuous routes through incremental enhancements, and promoting a culture that respects active transportation. The plan is informed by extensive community input and prioritizes investments to enhance safety, improve connections between neighborhoods, schools, and downtown, and provide better access to trails and the waterfront for all ages and abilities.
