Feb 4, 2016·Board Meeting

Bentz/Thompson/Rietow, Inc. Meeting Notes

Board

The Steering Committee meeting reviewed design development progress for the BSU Academic Learning Center project. Discussions included reviewing schematic design images and the associated construction budget estimates for new construction and renovations. The committee noted MnSCU's approval of the project, budget, and schedule, along with suggestions for Design Development (DD) such as considering exterior sun shades and minimizing the mechanical penthouse. The design and construction schedule was reviewed, leading to a request for a phasing plan for the remodelings. Progress on Design Development included addressing the staffing requirement for the ALC reception area, modifying roof access to avoid classrooms, and reviewing site/utility updates where lawn area was a concern. The committee discussed keeping the covered walkway as an add alternate due to cost constraints. For renovations, requirements for library staff space, security management, and the deletion of a proposed coffee shop due to plumbing complexity were discussed. The scope for renovations in BB, SG, and BE was pared down, and a need for a new receptionist and conference room in Bensen 2nd floor was noted. The need for hazardous materials reports for HS and renovation areas was also raised.
