The meeting included recognition of students for achievements in the National History Day competition and other academic and extracurricular areas. The board also recognized Penny Chapman, President of the Council of PTAs, for her service. The board addressed the consent agenda, including personnel recommendations, minutes, bids, purchases, and construction items. The board discussed and took action on authorizing advertisement of notice of a public meeting to discuss the budget and tax rate.

The Plano SD Board of Trustees held a work session focusing on the district's major goals: improving student learning and efficiently using resources. Discussions included a request to change the May 8th, 2018 board meeting date to May 7th due to end-of-year events, which was approved. The board also discussed the compensation plan, with an update from Dr. Beth Brockman and a presentation on the compensation plan briefing. The total salaries, comparison market districts, and teacher market were reviewed. Health insurance and total compensation packages were also discussed, along with next steps including potential adjustments to higher-end salaries for experienced teachers and compensation for bus drivers.
