This plan is structured around three core pillars: people, infrastructure, and systems of engagement. Key aims include ensuring equitable access to AI education and tools for all students, fostering the creation of 'Departments and Centers of AI and Society' to embed human and societal norms in AI development, and establishing the 'Empire AI' compute infrastructure. The initiative also focuses on strengthening partnerships with industry, government, and academia through platforms like 'SUNY Research Connect,' asserting public higher education's role in shaping the future of AI rather than merely reacting to market trends.
