Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization Plan 2026
The Food Access and Security in Transportation (FAST) Plan, developed by the Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization (SMMPO), aims to understand and address the barriers and facilitators influencing food access and security across its 27 municipalities. The plan proposes strategies for regional food resilience and equitable access through integrated transportation investments. Key action areas include prioritizing equitable transportation projects, expanding mobility options, addressing food insecurity as a public health priority, managing living costs, providing educational resources, supporting local agriculture, strengthening organizational networks, and fostering regional and multi-state partnerships. The ultimate goal is to improve food access and transportation options, leading to a healthier, safer, and more affordable future for all residents.
