City representatives encouraged attendees to provide feedback on the demo via a provided QR code system to assist in future design decisions.

The Board reviewed an application from the First United Methodist Church regarding sign installations at 57 W 10th Street. Following a clarification on commercial versus non-commercial signs and confirmation of code compliance, the Board approved the two already installed signs. Additionally, the Chair introduced a new member to the Board.

The Commission reviewed multiple Certificate of Appropriateness applications, including approvals for a rear addition at 276 Pine Avenue, home and garage renovations at 69 W. 13th Street, and porch repairs at 203 W. 12th Street. Window replacement applications for 11 W. 14th Street and 75 W. 12th Street were addressed, along with a garage door replacement at 162 W. 12th Street. A Notice to Proceed was granted for the demolition of an existing garage at 129 W. 12th Street to accommodate future accessory dwelling unit construction. Furthermore, the Commission recommended that the City Council remove the historic landmark designation for the former City greenhouse site at 496 Central Avenue. The session concluded with committee reports regarding National Historic Preservation Month and preparations for upcoming officer elections.

The commission featured a special presentation by the Founder and President of Empowering Youth Global Connections. Updates were provided on the city budget and upcoming student representative activities. The commission conducted elections for the positions of Commission Chair and Chair Elect. Additionally, department staff provided a year-end report on fiscal year 2026 goals, including updates on the World Affairs Council events, the Reel Time Film Series, and the International Festival. Progress on commission-specific goals was reviewed, including updates on a quarterly calendar, the creation of a Welcome Center, and relationship-building efforts with partner cities.

The sessions covered a comprehensive agenda involving a review of the Community Energy Plan and a strategic development team update regarding local carbon footprint reduction strategies. Discussions also included an update on refuse and recycling request for proposal bid results and the Civic Center Place Improvement Project. Additionally, the council conducted a selection process for a new City Manager, culminating in the appointment of Keith Van Beek.
