The Board discussed the ongoing impact and effectiveness of the Homeless Engagement Assistance and Resource Team (HART) program, which pairs law enforcement with civilian navigators to address homelessness. Participants highlighted the importance of proactive policing, community outreach, and compassionate support as key components to successfully linking individuals to essential services including mental health care, substance use treatment, and housing resources.

The Board of County Commissioners reviewed and approved the Pinery Meadows Plan Development First Amendment. Key discussions included defining setbacks specific to 68 single-family detached cluster lots, modifying setbacks for duplex lots, clarifying language regarding encroachment into utility easements, and ensuring that private road terminology remains consistent with the final plat. The applicant addressed concerns regarding potential encroachment into utility easements by confirming that such actions require signed agreements from the utility provider, CORE, and the builder.

The meeting included a review of the water plan update, focusing on public outreach and engagement strategies, including the use of digital and in-person engagement activities. The Commission also reviewed the GIS mapping tool, which allows for visual analysis of groundwater data, production wells, water rights, and subdivision information to support decision-making for individual well owners and county water providers.

The Board of County Commissioners meeting focused on two primary agenda items. First, the Board proclaimed May 11th through May 16th, 2026, as Law Enforcement Week in Douglas County, honoring the service and sacrifices of law enforcement officers. Second, the Board proclaimed May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting initiatives such as the Community Response Teams, the Care Compact, and new partnerships with the Douglas County Health Department and Advent Health to improve mental health outcomes, reduce stigma, and provide better access to crisis services.
