The commission reviewed a conditional use permit request for a property located in Florence Township, which includes the operation of a marina, a resort/campground, and a restaurant with an indoor and outdoor bar. The staff provided a report detailing the scope of operations, compliance with zoning ordinances, parking requirements, and potential environmental considerations. The commission held a public hearing, engaged in discussions regarding the site's usage and environmental impact, and ultimately recommended the Board of Commissioners approve the conditional use permit request, subject to specific conditions such as septic maintenance, seasonal operation limitations, and landscape plan requirements.
The board discussed several items including the approval of a Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation for October 2026, approval of 2027 insurance renewals, and the hiring of temporary personnel for the Sheriff's office and Surveyor/GIS department. Funding allocations for the Statewide Affordable Housing Aid program were finalized, with resources distributed to Habitat for Humanity and Three Rivers Community Action. Additionally, the board approved a construction management contract, conducted a public hearing for a zoning ordinance map amendment in Florence Township, authorized funding for the Cannon Valley Trail, and established the 2027 preliminary property tax levy.
The committee discussed requests for staffing adjustments within the Sheriff's Office and Surveyor's office. Specifically, approval was supported for hiring an additional Patrol Deputy to manage staffing pressures caused by long-term leaves, with a plan to absorb the next vacancy through attrition. Furthermore, the committee supported the reinstatement of a Deputy Land Surveyor position and the replacement of an Administrative Assistant who transferred to another county department.
