The Tempe Police Department's Strategic Response Section-Narcotics & Criminal Operations (SRS-NCO) is dedicated to proactively enhancing the quality of life for residents through collaborative, community-centered policing. The section is structured into five units: the Action Team, which focuses on combating crime trends and addressing neighborhood complaints; the Community Policing Unit, which manages chronic nuisance properties and assists the unsheltered population; the Tactical Response Unit (TRU), responsible for maintaining tactical readiness and providing advanced support for complex operations; and the Neighborhood Response Unit, which addresses issues in public and outdoor spaces and handles narcotics investigations. This organizational framework aims to streamline operations and efficiently address community concerns, neighborhood complaints, and narcotic-related issues.

This document introduces the Tempe Police Department's new mission and core values, developed through collaborative efforts within the department. The new mission is to protect and serve the community through innovative and professional law enforcement practices. This mission is underpinned by three core values: Excellence, emphasizing high standards, innovative solutions, and transparency; Professionalism, focusing on ethical conduct, trust, and accountability; and Compassion, highlighting service with respect, empathy, and dignity. The plan aims to build trust, foster safety, and strengthen community relationships.

The meeting focused on defining the purpose and scope of the Subcommittee to modernize and realign the City of Tempe's federal and legislative priorities. Key discussion topics included an overview of existing municipal principles and 2026 legislative priorities, exploring strategies to enhance policy frameworks, and determining a future meeting schedule. The Subcommittee emphasized the importance of preserving local decision-making authority, protecting revenue sources, and maintaining flexibility in service delivery, with plans to refine guiding principles for future review.

The Board will address a potential motion to move into executive session to obtain legal advice and review confidential records. Additionally, the Board will conduct a hearing regarding an application for accidental disability benefits for a specific individual. Future agenda items will be discussed, and space is provided for public appearances.

The board approved new member applications for several individuals. Additionally, a status update regarding an application for accidental disability benefits was provided, noting that results from an independent medical exam will be presented at a future session. The board also received information regarding the quarterly newsletter from the retirement system.
