The City of Sunrise's strategic planning process, titled 'Imagine Sunrise 2041: Lighting Our Path Together,' aims to gather community input to shape the city's future direction. This comprehensive plan will guide priorities and decisions towards the city's 80th anniversary in 2041, focusing on growth, development, and community well-being for the next 20 years and beyond, based on feedback from residents and businesses.

The meeting included discussions and actions on various items, including amendments to the City Clerk's Salary Range and the Community Development Department's Building Division Fee Schedule. Agreements were approved for professional services, equipment procurement, and cooperative agreements for human resource systems and software products. The commission also discussed and approved an interlocal agreement regarding water distribution and sanitary sewer systems, as well as a project forcemain relocation. Additionally, there were presentations on legislative updates and the Police Department's Red-Light Camera Intersection Safety Program. The commission also addressed a rezoning request and a development agreement, along with discussions on school zone speed enforcement and town hall meetings.

The Sunrise Sustainability Action Plan provides guiding principles and recommendations to proactively increase resiliency and improve the sustainability of the City across its departments and within the community. The plan outlines 15 goals and 94 recommendations to be progressed over the next five years, focusing on three key areas: Resource Management, Vulnerability, and Sustainability. It aims to preserve the vibrant community and natural resources to meet the needs of present and future generations.

The Sunrise City Commission held a special meeting covering a wide array of topics. These included approving expenditures from the State Confiscation and Forfeiture Fund, various agreements for services and equipment, and the renewal of insurance coverages. The commission also discussed proclamations for National Service Dog Month, Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Hunger Action Month. Additionally, there were presentations for Youth Athletes and Teachers of the Month, recognition of retiring and outstanding employees, and discussions on construction issues, property valuations, and commission reports. Public hearings were held for fire rescue and parking garage assessments, nuisance abatement, and several ordinance amendments. The commission also discussed and took action on a rezoning request, automated license plate readers, and annual reviews for the City Manager, Police Chief, City Clerk, and Fire Chief. Lastly, there was a discussion regarding the Hurricanes Youth Football Program.
