This Metropolitan Transportation Plan addresses the increasing demand for river crossings due to anticipated population growth by 2035. The plan outlines five strategies: increasing capacity by adding lanes to existing or new crossings; improving vehicle occupancy through High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes; optimizing land use to balance jobs and housing; enhancing transit options including light rail and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT); and improving roadway efficiency through traffic signal coordination, information dissemination, and accident clearance. The overarching goal is to manage traffic flow and congestion effectively across the river.
