This strategic plan outlines the Winnipeg Community Crisis Response (WCCR) Model, a proposed coordinated, community-based system designed to operate alongside traditional emergency services. Its primary goal is to ensure individuals experiencing non-emergent mental health, substance use, wellness, and social crises receive appropriate support at the right time. Key pillars include establishing multiple access pathways (starting with 911 diversion), a central Community Crisis Dispatch and Coordination Hub, designated Community Crisis Response Teams, and robust post-crisis follow-up with ongoing support connections. The plan aims to improve access to timely care, expand community-based response options, strengthen system coordination, enhance continuity of care, and reduce reliance on emergency services.

Winnipeg Police Service Press Conference
The Winnipeg Police Service held a press conference to address a concerning trend of hoax threats made against schools in the city. Since early February, the service has responded to 11 separate reports of threats. While none of the threats were found to be credible, officials emphasized the significant impact these incidents have on resources, students, and staff, and noted that such activities are serious criminal offenses. The police have already made three arrests in connection with these events and urged parents to discuss the gravity of these actions with their children, while also encouraging students to report any suspicious activity. The department remains committed to keeping schools safe and will continue to investigate all threats thoroughly.
