This strategic plan outlines the vision and direction for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) for the year 2024. It is built upon extensive internal and external feedback, focusing on adapting the Department's vision to current climate conditions and community needs while retaining its core mission. The plan identifies six primary goals: attracting, hiring, and retaining quality employees; ensuring all employees understand departmental programs and job duties; promoting a culture of equitable access, diversity, and inclusion; leveraging technology to modernize internal human resources processes; strengthening physical and digital infrastructure; and identifying core capabilities to enhance operational capacity.
