Board meetings and strategic plans from Caroline Ford's organization
This document outlines the shared mission and vision of the school district. The mission is to serve students by empowering them to reach their maximum potential through rigorous, relevant, and real-world learning within a caring, collaborative, and creative environment. The vision is to establish the district as a premier institution for living and learning, ensuring all students are prepared for future opportunities by fostering a safe, positive culture with excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. Learners are expected to acquire world-class knowledge, skills, and life/career characteristics as defined by the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
The meeting commenced with a performance by the Boiling Springs Elementary Honor Choir, which presented songs related to South Carolina. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected board members, assisted by Judge Shannon Phillips. The board also recognized members for achieving various levels in the South Carolina School Boards Association's Boardmanship Institute training. Furthermore, a special presentation honored the board members during January Board Appreciation Month by pairing them with students who presented significant books to each trustee. The final recorded agenda item was the commencement of the public comments section, with Mr. Tim Smith scheduled to address the board.
The meeting included a prayer of st. Francis. The board also discussed the progress on building a new Boiling Springs High School, including timeline, early civil package, groundbreaking ceremony, clearing of the site, storm drain, segmental retaining wall, and foundations. There was also a discussion about building a healthier Boiling Springs, including the fiscal impacts of design choices for the built environment.
The Spartanburg County Council recognized and congratulated the Boiling Springs High School's football team for winning the 5A football Upper State Championship. The council acknowledged the team's achievements, including finishing the 2016-17 season with a record of 13-2, winning their second region title, and making their first appearance in a state championship game. The council also recognized several players who signed to play college football and highlighted the team's academic achievements.
The strategic plan for Spartanburg School District Two for the 2022-2023 school year focuses on student achievement, qualified personnel, fiscal responsibility, a supportive learning environment, and effective communication. Key goals include improving school report card ratings, enhancing longitudinal achievement in elementary, middle, and high schools, recruiting and retaining qualified staff, ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars, maintaining school cleanliness and safety, and strengthening internal and external communication with stakeholders.
