The council discussed the city budget, specifically focusing on the potential impact of a November property tax exemption ballot measure on future tax revenues. Key agenda items included the reclassification and allocation of personnel to reduce strain on the general fund, the authorization of three new firefighter positions to meet safety staffing requirements, and the creation of a new receptionist position. The board conducted a public hearing regarding a proposed rezoning request for a 2.66-acre property from R1-AAA to R1-A to allow for smaller lot sizes and widths while maintaining single-family character. The project applicant provided clarification on the intent to facilitate eight single-family lots, noting that density would not change, but the zoning adjustment was needed for lot frontage constraints along the northern boundary. Several area residents spoke in opposition to the request, citing concerns regarding neighborhood character, increased traffic, and potential reduction in property values due to the smaller lot requirements associated with the R1-A zoning.
