Chetwynd

This document outlines the District of Chetwynd's Active Transportation Plan, developed in 2021. The plan's primary goal is to improve active transportation conditions by expanding and enhancing the sidewalk, bicycle, and trail networks, and improving intersections and crossings. It also aims to encourage public health and active living through walking and cycling, and to improve wayfinding and trip planning to support tourism. The plan seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create safer connections, enhance physical health, mitigate conflicts, and leverage funding opportunities, ultimately transforming Chetwynd into a more active and healthier community.

The Downtown Revitalization Plan for the District of Chetwynd outlines directions and goals for the beautification and enhancement of the downtown core. The plan focuses on creating attractive, convenient, and pedestrian-friendly spaces through key recommendations that include improving streetscape and sidewalk elements, transitioning to low-maintenance landscaping, utilizing corner bulb-outs, enhancing downtown gateways, and improving accessibility and movement. It also aims to enhance community pride through seasonal decorations and events, establish a comfortable cycle network, and provide adequate lighting, with the vision of transforming the downtown into a lively, vibrant, and memorable commercial environment.

The council discussed traffic concerns, business operations, and COVID-19 precautions. They addressed a missed Recreational Commission meeting and discussed correspondence, including parade organization. A public comment period was held regarding a development variance permit application. They also discussed scheduling a public hearing for official community plan and zoning amendment bylaws, and addressed resolutions related to coroners. Additionally, the council approved financial statements from December 31, 2019, and considered an invitation from Hudson Hope to tour BC Hydro projects.

The council discussed highway closure bylaw number 1121 2020, community plan amendment bylaw number 1082 2020, and zoning amendment bylaw number 1083 2020. There was a public consultation regarding the highway closure. Reports were given on the Chainsaw Carving Championship Society and the Little Prairie Heritage Society. An update was provided on the regional solid waste program.

The council discussed a tax exemption bylaw, the regular ice season, and a safety plan. They also talked about solid waste management, recycling plastics, and composting. Additionally, they addressed concerns about potholes and approved a motion to endorse safety plans for public skating and programs. They also approved staff submitting an application for grant funding for the outdoor water park.
