The Commission met with the Chamber of Commerce to discuss and advocate for the proposed Use Tax, which is slated for the upcoming November ballot for both City and County consideration. Additionally, the Commission processed administrative records, including certificates of training for the County Treasurer and County Clerk, as well as the Sheriff's fees for the month of August.
The Commission attended a ribbon cutting ceremony and toured a manufacturing facility. Key discussions included a six-month budget review for the Sheriff's Department, where the department's expenditures were confirmed to be within limits despite high costs for air conditioning repairs. Additionally, the Commission addressed requirements for the Humane Society regarding the tracking of county-provided funds.
The Commission entered into an agreement with the Adair County Soil and Water Conservation District to promote soil conservation, cost-share, and loan-interest share assistance programs, for which a $1,000 contribution was awarded. The Commission also discussed the recruitment of a replacement board member for the Adair County Library, reviewed upcoming dates for a state-required financial audit, and evaluated engineering qualification proposals for the construction of four small bridges on Banner Lane, Fox Trot Lane, Benton Road, and Oklahoma Trail.
The Commission met to discuss a presentation on a health insurance cost control program by ECCHIC, which included information on potential savings for the county and requests for employee data to facilitate a future quote. Additionally, the County Collector successfully requested a budget amendment to accommodate the procurement of a new tax bill folding machine and office furniture.
The Commission addressed various operational and administrative matters, including issues regarding tax bill processing and the proposed development of a new RTS Waste management transfer station. Reports were provided on Courthouse infrastructure projects, such as tree maintenance, gutter and downspout repairs, chimney removal, and the installation of solar lighting. Discussion also covered the recent participation in the Missouri Association of Counties meeting and ongoing initiatives to digitize records within the Recorder's office to improve operational efficiency.
