Southern SARE
Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) is accepting pre-proposals for the timeline-adjusted 2026 Research and Education Grants program. This program focuses on sustainable agriculture based on a systems approach to research, which aims to understand how the components of a system interact with each other and function as a whole. Proposed projects must focus on Southern SARE’s program objectives in developing sustainable agriculture systems or moving existing farming systems toward sustainability. SSARE is looking for systems research pre-proposals of around $400,000, though smaller proposals are also welcome.

Montana State University
Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) invites researchers from Western Region institutions to apply for Research and Education grants up to $350,000 to support projects that incorporate research and education and bring together a team of researchers, students, ag professionals, and producers. Projects must integrate rigorous research and education aiming to advance the environmental, economic, and social components of sustainable agriculture and use innovative educational outreach to disseminate new knowledge to students, producers, and other agricultural stakeholders.
Southern SARE
Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) is accepting pre-proposals for Professional Development Program grants up to $100,000. The Professional Development Program is a "train the trainer" program, providing funding to agricultural professionals to train Cooperative Extension agents, USDA field personnel, and other ag professionals and educators in areas of sustainable agriculture production practices. Training activities may include seminars, workshops, farm tours, and on-farm demonstrations, or the marketing and distributing of training materials. There is an adjusted timeline for the 2026 Professional Development Program Grants, with invited full proposals due in May 2026 and grant awards in August 2026.
North Central Region - SARE
North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (NCR-SARE) is accepting proposals from farmers and ranchers in the region to explore sustainable agriculture solutions to problems on the farm or ranch. Individual grants up to $15,000 and team grants up to $30,000 are available. Farmers and ranchers can explore regenerative solutions to problems through on-farm research or demonstration/education projects and report on what worked, what didn’t, and what they would recommend to others. Approximately $720,000 is available for this program, and NCR-SARE expects to fund about 40 projects in the 12-state region.
