Summary
Develops and coordinates independent net assessments of the standing, trends, and long-term prospects of u. S. Military capabilities and national potential in comparison with those of other countries or groups of countries to identify emerging or future threats or opportunities for the united states. Priority is given to assessing aspects of the security environment and parts of the world that are likely to change in the future, and that may present threats or opportunities to the united states and its competitive position. Assessments may focus on specific theaters, regions, functions, mission areas, major weapons categories, doctrine, etc. , as well as on demographic, economic, and political developments that may affect the power, potential, and strategies of nations.
