Summary
I. Removal - The artwork, which consists of 165 aluminum letters attached to a backing fabricated from aluminum and painted with paints which have faded and peeled, needs repainting. The overall dimensions of the artwork are 18”(h) x 1662”(w) x 2.75”(d). There are 12 aluminum backing panels, each measuring 8”(h) x between 130” and 145(w)”. The artwork will be deinstalled and transported to the winning bidder’s studio by the winning bidder or arrange for deinstallation and transportation of the artwork to the winning bidder’s studio by a reputable art handler. All staging, equipment, packing materials, etc. will be provided by the winning bidder or art handler, arranged by the winning bidder. II. Paint Removal – All components of the artwork will need all old paint removed by blasting by the winning bidder. III. Moving Letters- Two of the words (24 letters) will need to be rearranged at instruction of the Artist, as relayed by the Arts Council. The winning bidder will plug the old holes and drill and tap new holes in the appropriate locations. IV. Color Matching -The original colors will need to be color matched by the winning bidder. There are 8 colors. Cambridge Arts Council will supply the correct RALs and guidance diagrams. V. Painting – The winning bidder prime, sand, and paint all components of the artwork using a linear aliphatic polyester urethane paint system designed for aluminum. (Can I specify the paint system? If so, Standard Awlgrip aeronautic primer and paint.) a. Awlgrip Max Cor CF Primer b. Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer c. If necessary, for irregular surfaces, Awlfair Fast d. Wherever Awlfair Fast was used, prime again with 545 Epoxy Primer e. Awlgrip polyester urethane topcoat (custom color matched) VI. Re-mount – The artwork will be transported back to the original site and re-mounted by the winning bidder or reputable art handler, arranged and overseen by the winning bidder.
