Summary
Provide a unique, one-of-a-kind carousel for zoo guests as an experienced carousel manufacturer, including design, manufacture and installation. This accessible ride will be designed for all ages and abilities, so the inner child in everyone can have an enjoyable and unique experience. The 36' diameter carousel will be housed in a covered shelter with large doors that open to allow the outside in. Animals will be approx 42" apart and three deep on the carousel. Around the perimeter walls, ample seating will allow visitors to rest and watch the carousel and riders. Additional standing railings along the carousel building footprint will allow visitors to lean, rest, and watch activities inside and outside the carousel building. Animals on the carousel will represent the 17 Pacific Northwest animals that the zoom may or may not have on exhibit. Interpretive labels will provide information that supports the zoo's interpretive plan and conservation storytelling. There will be two copies of 15 unique animals for visitors to ride, as well as two additional unique animals that provide a chariot ride and that can be transformed into an ADA accessible seat with a secure tie-in option for a wheelchair. Graphics around the top of the carousel will represent iconic spots in the Pacific Northwest (i.e. Haystack Rock, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Mt. Hood, Multnomah Falls, Mt. Rainier). Scenic lighting and an original soundtrack will provide mood to the space. The carousel shall be designed and manufactured to meet all applicable amusement ride standards, local Oregon codes, and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards.
