Summary
The HKMC renovation upgrades the complex to contemporary standards of performance, safety, and accessibility. This proposal will maintain the halls as double-occupancy student housing. The work encompasses renewal of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; the modernization of fire alarm and emergency communication. Mechanical ventilation will be provided to all student resident rooms. The proposed renovation re-addresses life safety enhancements, including installation of a fire sprinkler system and an elevator to achieve full vertical access to all occupied floors. The renovation improves primary building access points to reinforce secure, well-managed ingress/egress and to better align public circulation with semi-public community spaces. Under this proposal, restroom cores are reconfigured to provide barrier-free, private, and inviting facilities; the renovation will help align the bathroom cores to be consistent with current expectations and code requirements.
