FY27 Longleaf Hand-Planting Tuskegee National Forest
The Alabama Forestry Commission seeks labor to hand-plant approximately 73 acres of longleaf pine at Tuskegee National Forest in Macon County; the U.S. Forest Service will supply containerized seedlings, which the contractor must pick up at the Tuskegee work center. Planting must follow 8-foot-by-8-foot spacing (680 trees per acre), achieve at least 90% correctly planted seedlings, and take place from December 1, 2026, through March 1, 2027, with careful handling to keep plugs intact and moist. The target site, in Sections 15 and 16, was clearcut in 2024 and 2025, received site-preparation spraying in early July 2026, and is planned to be burned before planting.
