Field Emission Electron Probe Microanalyzer (FE-EPMA) System

Description: Background and Purpose McMaster University and the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy (CCEM) have a requirement for one (1) field emission electron probe microanalyzer (FE-EPMA) system, funded in part through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund. The CCEM is a national facility for electron microscopy and is committed to providing its academic, government and industry user base with accessible, state-of-the-art microanalysis. High-precision quantitative measurement of composition and trace elements by wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (WDS) at submicrometre spatial resolution has been identified as a gap in the capabilitiescurrently available to CCEM users, particularly in research on critical minerals, semiconductors, energy materials and metallurgy. This requirement is to include:A field emission EPMA with multiple wavelength dispersive X-ray spectrometers;Capability for integrated energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and cathodoluminescence (CL) configuration;Supporting hardware and analysis software; andInstallation, training, warranty and service support.The system must be a field emission EPMA that combines high probe current and current stability with small probe size at low accelerating voltage, simultaneous WDS and EDS analysis, and CL spectroscopy integrated without the loss of a spectrometer port, with the ability to add soft X-ray emission spectroscopy for light-element (including lithium) and chemical-state analysis. This combination is required to meet the needs of CCEM’s researchers and users. The purpose of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to signal McMaster University’s intention to award a contract for the above-noted goods and/or services to the following pre-selected supplier: JEOL Canada Inc. 3275 1ère Rue, Suite 8 St-Hubert, QC J3Y 8Y6 Canada (Canadian sales agent: Soquelec Ltd., Montréal, QC) Website: www.jeol.com JEOL Canada Inc., the Canadian subsidiary of the manufacturer JEOL Ltd., together with its Canadian sales agent Soquelec Ltd., is the only supplier able to provide, install and support the JXA-iHP200F system in Canada. Prior to awarding this contract, McMaster University is providing other potential suppliers with the opportunity to demonstrate that they are capable of satisfying the requirements as per this ACAN, by submitting a Statement of Capabilities Form during the posting period. If other potential suppliers submit a Statement of Capabilities Form that meet McMaster University’s requirements as set out in the ACAN, McMaster University may proceed to a competitive procurement process. If no other supplier submits a Statement of Capabilities Form on or before the closing date/time, a contract may be awarded to the above-noted preselected supplier. All Proponents must have obtained the ACAN from www.Merx.com (MERX®). Failure to have obtained the ACAN from MERX® will result in disqualification.

Local Electrode Atom Probe Tomography System
Background and Purpose McMaster University and the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy (CCEM) have a requirement for one (1) atom probe tomography (APT) system, with post-warranty service and the trade-in of CCEM’s existing CAMECA LEAP 5000 XS atom probe. The purchase is funded in part through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund. The CCEM is a national facility for electron microscopy and operates an APT facility serving researchers in metallurgy, critical minerals, semiconductors, nuclear and energy materials. APT is the only technique that provides three-dimensional, near-atomic-scale compositional mapping. This requirement is to include: a. A local electrode atom probe with laser and voltage pulsing modes; b. Automated, high-throughput specimen handling; c. Compatibility with CCEM’s existing cryogenic/vacuum specimen transfer equipment; and d. Installation, training, warranty, post-warranty service and trade-in of the existing instrument. The system must combine a local electrode design with an energy-compensated (reflectron) flight path and deep ultraviolet laser pulsing, providing high mass resolution over a large field of view and high specimen yield across a wide range of materials.
