FCI Jesup VT HVAC Services
The course is an approx. 50 credit hours program for qualified inmates at an undergraduate level. The application of the skills learned will be assessed through live work, which will comprise 20-40% of that time. The responsible entity will provide instruction on topics/standards to include, but not limited to, the following: basic safety, introduction to construction math, introduction to hand tools, introduction to power tools, introduction to blue prints, basic rigging, introduction to HVAC, copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, basic electricity, introduction to cooling and heating, air distribution systems, chimneys, vents, flues, maintenance skills for technicians, alternating current, basic electronics, electric heating, introduction to control circuit troubleshooting, accessories and equipment, metering devices, compressors, heat pumps, leak detection, evacuation, recovery, charging, planned maintenance, troubleshooting heating (gas, electric, and oil), troubleshooting cooling, troubleshooting heat pumps, troubleshooting accessories, troubleshooting electronic controls, hydronic heating and cooling systems, airside systems, air properties and balancing, advanced blueprint reading, indoor air quality, energy conservation equipment, building management systems, water treatment, system start-up and shut-down, heating and cooling system design, and commercial and industrial refrigeration.
