Summary
Provide a research-based, structured cursive writing program specifically designed for students in grades two through five (approximately 3,000 students and 175 teachers per grade level) incorporating multisensory instructional strategies to support handwriting development. Proposers shall: A. Include research-based materials and strategies that address letter formation, stroke sequence, spacing, legibility and fluency. B. Align the cursive writing program with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for English Language Arts and Foundational Writing Skills. C. Offer support to strengthen the school-to-home connection, including resources and guidance for families to reinforce cursive writing practice outside of the classroom. D. Provide options for Tier 2 interventions aligned with the current New Jersey Tiered System of Supports (NJTSS) Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Framework to support diverse learners, including bilingual, English Second Language (ESL), and students receiving special education services. E. Incorporate formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress in cursive writing and inform instructional planning. F. Supply high-quality practice materials and student workbooks that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with the program’s scope and sequence. G. Deliver professional learning opportunities led by a literacy or handwriting specialist with expertise in cursive
writing instruction, enabling teachers to deepen their understanding of effective pedagogy and instructional strategies. H. Possess the distribution capabilities to package, label, and ship all program materials in a timely, clear, and organized manner to all NBOE schools.
