Regulatory Science Tool for Transcranial Ultrasound Modeling RFP
The Contractor shall develop a computational modeling package for simulating transcranial ultrasound sonication protocols. The scope includes development of computational forward models of acoustic propagation and thermal spread, validation using shared measurement datasets, determination of a standard reference tissue properties set, sensitivity analysis to identify critical parameters, development of baseline/best-case/worst-case patient models for ultrasound safety, transducer modeling, and comprehensive documentation. The scope does not require development of entirely new simulation algorithms from scratch; the Contractor shall leverage appropriate algorithms and open-source toolsets such as k-Wave, BabelViscoFDTD, etc. The scope allows for two alternative development approaches: Single-technique RST Development: The Contractor shall develop one computational modeling package based on a single modeling technique—either Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) or Pseudo-Spectral Time Domain (PSTD)—with technical justification for the selected technique.
