About this conference
The Tribal Energy Summit is a strategic and collaborative gathering organized by the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. It aims to convene Tribal Nations, energy industry leaders, and federal partners to discuss the critical role of Tribal lands in advancing national energy goals. The Summit will provide updates on the Department of the Interior and BIA priorities supporting the future of energy development in Indian Country, focusing on streamlining the review and approval processes for energy projects including exploration, leasing, siting, development, production, transportation, refining, and generation. It emphasizes upholding Tribal sovereignty and supporting community-driven growth, fostering intergovernmental coordination, information sharing, and collaboration across Federal, Tribal, and Industry regulatory frameworks. Key discussion topics will include Mineral Agreement Options (e.g., Indian Mineral Development Act), Tribal Self-Governance opportunities (e.g., Tribal Energy Resource Agreements), Capacity Building for oil and gas development, Energy Industry and Investment Activities, and identifying new pathways for energy security and economic growth on Tribal lands. A listening session on Tribal Energy Resource Agreements (TERA) will provide a forum for Tribal leaders, Tribal staff, and BIA leadership to share perspectives on current energy priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
