The Federal–Tribal Relationship in Practice: Trust Responsibilities and Current Indian Law Developments

This webinar, part of the Oregon Law Perspectives series, will examine some of the most consequential issues in contemporary Indian Law. Former National Park Service Director Chuck Sams will discuss the impact of recent Department of the Interior Secretarial Orders across policy areas including hunting, fishing, expanded outdoor recreation access, and new constraints on energy development, exploring federal mechanisms available to tribal governments engaged in co-managing public lands. Oregon Law Professor of Practice Howard Arnett will analyze the rapid rise of prediction markets and the growing wave of litigation initiated by states and tribes, arguing that these platforms constitute unlicensed sports betting, and explain why these disputes are likely to reach the US Supreme Court.
